Vincent Casamatta Chooses Waves SoundGrid® For High-Profile FOH Gigs

Waves Audio is seeing a growing number of young cutting-edge live engineers turn to WavesLive tools, including front-of-house engineer Vincent Casamatta (OK GO, They Might Be Giants) currently on the road with AWOLNATION.

He notes, “Using WavesLive tools is a central part of what it takes to provide studio-quality mixes with consistency every night. I look at digital mixing environments, like DiGiCo, as a blank slate, and using Waves adds the color and punch to my mixes. The workflow is as simple as it gets. I spend nearly the whole show tweaking the Waves rack on my screen. Most importantly, it has the exact same feel and sound of Waves that we use in the studio, so it blurs the line with respect to what you can achieve in the studio versus live.” By employing WavesLive tools, Casamatta helps these artists achieve the level of polish attained in the recording studio.

His go-to plugins are C4 Multiband on guitar, which provides him a “super-simple way to mellow out too much bite”; SSL G-Channel into L1 and L2 Ultramaximizers and shaped with a PuigTec EQP-1A for the drum buss; LoAir on synth low-end for sub-harmonics to “tighten up the whole mix”; DeEsser on main vocals; CLA-2A on backing vocals; and H-Comp on the snare buss.

Vincent Casamatta is part of the growing trend among live sound professionals who are making the move to the next-generation workflow with Waves plugins and WavesLive SoundGrid®. Visit http://www.waves.com and www.waveslive.com for more information.

Number of Global Music Streaming Subscribers Will Grow Almost Threefold From 2012 To 2017

New digital audio research from Parks Associates predicts the number of music streaming subscribers worldwide will reach 15 million by 2017, and the number of connected audio products will nearly double between 2013 and 2017. Analysts report a strong correlation between the growing penetration of networked audio products, including wireless speakers, speaker docks, multiroom digital music systems, and A/V receivers, and music service subscriptions to Rhapsody, Pandora, Rdio, Spotify, and others.

"Business models and the prospects for profitability in Internet-based music services have changed substantially. The market for connected audio devices is also changing. Parks Associates first reported on the linkages between music services and connected audio products in 2011," said Brett Sappington, director, research, Parks Associates. "Since then, the number of users of major streaming music services has increased over 200%, while growth in paying users has exceeded 80%."

The report Evolution of Digital Music on Connected Devices finds worldwide unit sales of audio products with networking capability have increased more than 170% to exceed 24 million in 2012. U.S. owners of music systems and devices that connect to the Internet are more than twice as likely as average broadband households to subscribe to music services. In a May 2013 U.S. survey, fourteen percent of households with connected music systems paid for music services, compared to six percent of households without connected music systems.

"Industry attention has focused on conflicts between music services such as Spotify and artists like Thom Yorke from Radiohead, yet the partnerships between streaming music companies and connected CE manufacturers or content providers are fundamental to driving consumer usage," Sappington said. "Partnerships such as Pandora with Google's Chromecast or the Rdio deal with Live Nation will put their services in front of more people, and that accessibility is translating to more users."

Parks Associates analysts say streaming music companies are aggressively tying their services to connected CE products. For example, Pandora is available on more than 900 CE devices, including a TV-based feature available on the Xbox 360 gaming console.

Reggea

Reggae Music of the Century's
it doesnt make sense for people who dont get music to start talking shit about music they dont understand, if you dont like certain music dont hate. Reggae is music that has been around for years its mostly inspirational holy music for the followers of Jah(God) it respects women a testament is the great tarrus riley , they care about the enviroment holla at Bascom X so suck on one before you hate on the music that cuts the boundaries. Most ignorant fools who dont understand reggae believe its backward because of the settings of the music and the weed smoked during the music hence the association. But its one of the music only created by actual musicians not artists, Reggae artist are purely instrumental a trend that has lost in most other genres of music.
Reggae is amazing if you listen it carries a message that only few can comprehend but meant for all, and for the hip hop lovers this is the mother of hiphop. its inspirational music and it still stays at the top no matter what people say. reggae never gets boring gets better everyday.

Cool Kalasha Awards

The crème of the film industry got honoured during the annual Kalasha Awards held last weekend at KICC. Pulse brings you the highs and lows of the ceremony

Has anyone ever told you that you look like Steve Jobs,” Collo thundered.

“No,” responded the dazed guest who had joined Collo on the podium to present an award.

The look-alike joke about the late American co-founder, chairman and CEO of Apple Inc was repugnant and it sent out cold stares from the crowd at the fully packed dome at Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), on that Saturday night during the annual Kalasha Awards.

The cream of the film industry had answered the call. Displaying great fashion sense and style, celebrities and other dignified guests graced the red carpet event and enjoyed the spotlight as they posed for paparazzi and gleefully took interviews.

Gracefully, the stunning ushers lent a hand and smiled before taking the celebrities’ hands to the magnificently decorated tables.

Palpable tension reigned among the various nominees as the moment of truth approached, re-stroking the fledgling rivalries between producers, film directors, casts from different production houses as well as media houses, as is so characteristic during the coveted ceremony.

Unfortunately, there was no unnerving the actors and actresses as the night took off on the wrong footing and theatrics reigned at the back stage.

With their drums rolling, the Kuza Africa Sanaa group set the ceremony off to the delight of the guests. However, the group’s great skills and choreographed artistry was rewarded with bad sound and poor stage lighting. Within no time, the mess was fixed and the ceremony went on smoothly.

A rather jubilant pair of Ahmed Dharwesh and Lydia Manyasi worked hard to charm the crowd.

Ideally, the prolific KTN anchor was to fuse in the Kiswahili touch, which had been incorporated in the golden and white-themed shindig in boosting the production of Kiswahili plays and films as planned by the organisers — a task he performed with diligently to the delight of the crowd.

Moments of joy were coupled with bitterness as winners celebrated around a cursing lot that, in protest, wondered if the results had been ‘cooked’ to favour a certain group. This is to be expected at every event where there are winners and losers.

“Are these awards made for old people? F**k them,” a furious producer cursed as the little known Jam Veil and pioneer KBC TV comedy Vioja Mahakamani show excelled to beat the newcomers.

Gangnam Style- YouTube's most-viewed video

psy gangnam dancer
Gangnam Style, the dance track by South Korean pop phenomenon Psy, has become YouTube's most-watched video of all time.
It has notched up more than 808m views since it was posted in July.
The video pokes fun at the consumerism of Gangnam, an affluent suburb of the South Korean capital Seoul.
In it, the portly Psy dances as though he is trotting on a horse, holding the reins and spinning a lasso in a manner that has sparked a global dance craze.
The video also features the 34-year-old singer reclining on a sun lounger in tight pink shorts, gazing longingly at a girl dancing on an underground train in tight shorts and gesticulating at a woman working out on a beach - in tight shorts.
The dance has sparked numerous copycat versions, being performed by a diverse fan-base including Filipino prison inmates, prominent Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and a Chinese robot.
Popular parodies include one performed by Eton College schoolboys and another in the Star Trek language Klingon.
Gangnam Style, which won best video at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards, has also been number one in 28 countries.
It holds the Guinness World Record for the most "liked" song ever - currently with a little under 5.4m likes on YouTube.
Previously, Justin Bieber's 2010 teenybopper hit Baby held the record for the most YouTube views.
Bieber's manager Scooter Braun was the first person in the US to tweet a link to the Gangnam Style video.
